Invoice discounting in Kenya: cash against a delivered, unpaid invoice to a public body, from partner lenders

Invoice discounting for Kenyan contractors: upload the invoice or payment certificate and a partner lender advances cash, repaid when the buyer pays.

Last reviewed October 2026

What it is
An advance from a licensed partner lender against an invoice or payment certificate you have issued to a public body and not yet been paid for.
Who it is for
Firms that have delivered and are waiting months for a government or large private buyer to pay.
How it is paid
The lender's discount, fees and conditions are the lender's terms, settled when the buyer pays; our arranging work is quoted and paid by M-Pesa.
Turnaround
Set by the lender's appraisal of the invoice and the buyer.
Delivered by
A licensed partner lender; Tendakazi arranges and relays.

What the service covers

Public bodies in Kenya pay well after delivery, and a firm with three invoices outstanding can be unable to start the fourth contract. Invoice discounting advances most of an invoice's value now, from a lender, against the buyer's payment later. When the buyer pays, the lender is settled and the balance, less the lender's charge, comes to you.

We prepare the request from the invoice or interim payment certificate, the contract and the delivery evidence, and relay it to a partner lender with your platform record. The lender's appraisal and terms are its own.

When you need it

  • You have delivered and invoiced and the buyer's payment is weeks or months away
  • An interim payment certificate has been issued on a works contract
  • A new contract needs mobilisation money before the old one pays
  • Suppliers and staff cannot wait for the buyer's cycle

What we need from you

  • The invoice or payment certificate and the contract it is under
  • Delivery evidence: delivery notes, inspection and acceptance, or the certified valuation
  • Company documents, bank statements and accounts from your vault
  • The buyer's payment history where you have it

How it works, step by step

  • Request invoice discounting from the services page and upload the invoice and evidence.
  • We check the file and quote our arranging work.
  • The request goes to a partner lender with your record.
  • The lender offers terms directly; you decide.
  • On acceptance the advance is paid; the buyer's payment settles the facility.

What it costs

The discount and fees are set by the lender, by the invoice, the buyer and the expected payment date, and are not stated here. Our arranging work is quoted before you pay. You are never obliged to accept the lender's offer.

Mistakes it prevents

  • Stalling a new contract for want of cash a buyer already owes you
  • Taking an unrelated loan on worse terms to bridge a receivable
  • Applying without the acceptance or certificate the lender needs
  • Losing track of which invoice the buyer's payment is meant to settle

How it fits the rest of Tendakazi

Invoicing and payment follow-up on the platform keep the evidence the lender needs in one place, and pending bills recovery pursues the buyer's payment that settles the facility. LPO financing is the equivalent before delivery.

Questions

Is this a loan from Tendakazi?

No. The advance comes from a licensed partner lender on its terms. We arrange and relay.

What invoices qualify?

The lender decides; invoices to public bodies and established buyers, with clear delivery evidence, are the usual case.

What does it cost?

The lender's discount and fees, on its offer, plus our arranging work on our quote.

What if the buyer pays late?

The facility's terms govern; ask the lender before accepting. Our payment follow-up service can pursue the buyer.
